Days to Go. . . 1.

The countdown til Christmas is painful.  I remember it as a child and it doesn't seem much has changed.  Excitement, anxiety, tension, enthusiasm, and restlessness all seem to peak as polar opposite emotions simultaneously ride the emotional wave .  Thankfully we are down to T-1.  A call from Santa's chief elf at the North Pole buzzed through other day as the boys duked it out but Matthew promptly declared that he wasn't speaking and handed the phone to Corbin.  He later quizzed me about whether it was really his elf and if so how could he see from the North Pole if he was just human.  Please go with the system for a little longer.

The superhero capes never got done.  There are more holidays down the road.  Mommy is trying to keep some resemblence of sanity amidst the chaos although I'm not thoroughly convinced it's working very well; however, I did have enough wits about me to ditch the capes.

Last night we went to Temple Square to see the lights amidst the crowds and lightly falling snow.  I am always amazed by how many lights they can actually put on one tree.  Those trees hold the best light magic I've ever witnessed.  Every single branch every single twig.  They don't cut corners with net lighting the way we do and they even hide their connections.

On tap today we have sugar cookie baking, welcoming Frosty to the world with our freshly endowed coating, and a little eggnog for Daddy.  It isn't spiked but he probably wished it were.  I have a few new DVDs in my back pocket should things get out of hand and need to restore order.  I hadn't really planned to get up this early today but since the babies were both up and then back down simultaneously I figured I might as well get started on our jolly holiday.  The best part will be this evening when they act out the Christmas story (can't wait to see Matthew's costume but I'm sure that whatever he comes up with will include a golf club), read and tell childhood stories and "nuggle" as Spence likes to say.  It will all come full circle as visions of sugar plums dance in their angelic heads and Santa gathers up and wraps the last of the gifts.  Then I will sit back and enjoy some of Grandma Engle's holiday cookie cheer in the warmth of the night.

No way! We went to see the lights @ Temple Square last night too. Sorry we missed you or maybe you saw us? We were the ones on the south end of the square trying to keep the 2 year old out of the water fountain. Good times. : )

Spencer was dying to get to the water. We spent a good deal of time indoors as Matthew loves the north visitors center. I kept trying to get back outside but decided that in the long run as long as he's enjoying it, what's the difference?
