Old Fuddy Duddy

Call me an old Fuddy Duddy but that's ok.

I logged on to the local theater's website to see what was playing and good grief--it's no wonder people are warped. Even if all the stars aligned and I actually went to a movie there is nothing but trash out there. I will make exception for a few family movies, which is why I logged on to begin with. Matthew was going to see Hotel for Dogs and I wanted to see what it was all about. The other movies, all marketed to our young impressionable generation, no doubt, were enough to make my skin crawl. I have reason to believe that things in the cinema will only continue their downward spiral of destruction.

This leads to me believe that I will have to make my kids stay home and act out 19th century plays like they used to do before the days of TV and radio because they're not spending my hard earned money on the current movie options.

Hobby or Full-time Gig?

So last summer, I finally followed through with my threat to start my little business. The only problem is that I'm finding to really do things properly, it makes more than a little time. Humm, what to do. I'm finding myself in pot pourri of manufacturing, marketing, regulation, and computer "stuff" that's enough to rob the last remaining bit of sanity. The website building thing is all new to me and I spent hours last night trying to nail down photos I was uploading. Is that the right term--uploading? I only use it because when the computer is thinking with the little circle thingy going around it says "please wait while photo uploads." I would get a photo loaded and then load another one and then they would move all over the screen like random atoms. Not to mention that they were supposed to be staying by their shopping cart description. It was an exercise in frustration and I went to bed after 12:00 wondering who's brilliant idea all of this was anyway. My overpaid certified computer technician is working out the bugs today. That would be Corbin, who by the way, officially returns to the work force in a dental lab next week! What a true blessing in this ecomony. We feel it no short of divine help and are very thankful. (So I hope he gets all my website issues resolved, the railing painting, office cleaned out, garaged hosed, caulking replaced, house cleaned and meals made for a month before next Monday since I'm losing my little House Frau.)

911, Can I help you?

Spence had summoned three officers to our door by 8:05 this morning. Apparently he called 911 when he took off with the bedroom phone while Matthew and I lay watching "Sid the Science Kid". It was lovely to greet three of Sandy's finest in my purple PJ's with last night's make up. To top it off, just seconds before the doorbell rang, Spencer was in the process of falling down the stairs and I yelled loudly because I was so scared he would hit his head on the wood floor at the bottom. All the while, the three officers were lining up on the doorstep ready to press the doorbell. Luckily Spence got stopped just as the doorbell rang. So on top of it all, I'm probably on the Division of Child & Family Services watch list. Matthew wouldn't stop talking their ears off and I felt like an idiot. I tried to cover our tracks by apologizing and telling them that the monkey child would no longer have telephone access and by giving Matthew a lesson on why not to call 911 unless there was a true emergency. Gosh lady, can't you control those kids?

Thanks Uncle Rod & Aunt Sue

Matthew is thrilled with his new outfit. He told me what his pose was called but now I can't remember for the life of me. It did have some sort of significance at the time.

First Official Week of 2009

It's Monday, the first day of the first official week of the New Year and I just can't seem to get going. As a rule, I try to remain optimistic in most situations but today I'm just not finding that shred of hope. Maybe it's because I was up 2,389 times last night with Spencer or because it's minus 82 outside. Whatever is curtailing my enthusiasm for the year so be it. I find that I'm not a fan of January--never have been never will be. We have some family birthdays in January and I have to be thankful that those folks had a place to land on the calendar at the time of birth but other than that you can remove the whole month from the year and I'll be just find with an 11 month calendar. I don't want to go so far as to use the word HATE but it's borderline between that and VERY STRONG DISDAIN. Where I sit, January serves no good purpose other than as a place marker to get us to warmer times. February is not much better but is one month closer to spring than January. Maybe if I was an avid skier or snowboarder or snow mobiler or something like that, I would feel differently but I'm not so I don't. The older I get I am starting to see the value in the overly inflated housing prices in the San Diego market. Should I be able to afford it, I'd be there tomorrow.

So, there you have it. A cheery little Happy New Year from me. Maybe tomorrow I will acclimate to my new environment and find some bit of cheer in these cold winter months but today I will just be grouchy about it.
