Hanging Out

This month has just flown. We've been busy doing yard work and playing. The weather has been hot and cold but we brave the elements anyway. We've been hanging out, tuckered out, partied out, and just plain out!

Someone please rescue me.

Tuckered Out

Just a swingin' myself to sleep.
The excitement of Thomas knocked Matthew out cold.
Are you a pillow or a baby?
Toys are so boring.

Partied Out

A chocolate splurge the day before Mother's Day. We decided it would be fun to dip strawberries. I think it will become a new tradition.
Surprised Spencer finds a great hat at Mommy's birthday party.

Kudos to Corbin

I have to give a high five to Corbin for his valiant household efforts over the past few weeks. He has been a superstar with the kids and helping around the house. He even fixed the broken screen last night. I thought you had to call Screen Mobile for such repairs. I had a mini-meltdown a few weeks ago and explained to him what an incredible sort of saint I really am to keep this family functioning as extraordinarily as it does all with one hand tied behind my back (in my mind anyway -but I'm sure it's all true). He listened and then said "you have to tell me what you need." Ughhhhh--that is such a guy thing to say but whatever! If that's what it takes then I'll do it. In fairness to him, it's probably a guy/girl thing. I want to be married to a mind-reader and he wants to be married to a communicater. He will probably be sorry that he told me that. I wonder if giving him an alphabetized "to do" list every morning would eventually offend him. I probably shouldn't push my luck. I am grateful for his help.

What a Woman Wants

I went to a show at South Towne expo center this weekend called "What a Woman Wants." I had to chuckle a little because what is it that a woman really wants? I change my mind from hour to hour. I was pretty sure that I didn't find most of what I think I want.

Today, I think some of the things I want are:

  1. self-cleaning kitchen counters
  2. a dryer that not only dries but folds my clothes
  3. a chance to watch a real movie in my bed
  4. stylish pants that are also comfortable
  5. hair that is not so difficult to do something with
  6. Pull ups that are the same price as diapers
  7. a good walk around the block
  8. a warm spring day to play and not feel guilty about the things I am ignoring
  9. a day of only happy news
  10. more time to do things that are most important
I'm pretty sure most of these things weren't at the show. Some things I did run across:
  1. Sexy modest shirts--is that an oxymoron? Don't we usually wear modest shirts to appear not too sexy? Well, anyway, I'm not sure where I would even wear it to. Not suitable for church--even though it is modest supposedly; the kids really wouldn't appreciate it while we played in the yard; and Corbin would never notice that I was wearing anything other than my Walmart pants. So, I might as well save the $34.99.
  2. Medical spa treatments. Mmmm, this scares me. I don't want a beauty school drop out trying to make me numb before injecting me with who knows what.
  3. Hair, nails and other beautification items. Frankly, I'm just not as into this as I used to be. No time to fuss with it. Just give me the clip and let me feel pretty once a week when I actually do my hair for church (assuming there's time) Matthew did note that my hair was the same as his Little People lady who's molded plastic hair was in a bun. I was very impressed with his observation skills even though I would prefer to think I'm more attractive than a piece of plastic.
  4. Fancy shoes. Here again, not into the fuss although I used to love shoes and spent tons of money over the years. These days, I stay pretty basic with the black and brown option in the summer and winter versions. Occassionally I get crazy and wear my red slip-ons. I know the stylish three inch heel makes it hard to kick a ball so I generally steer clear.

As Corbin likes to point out, I don't know what I want and sometimes he's right.

Sick babe

Poor little Spencer has had a cough for months. We've been to the doctor twice but it hasn't gone away. This week we've added the typical bug symptoms on top. Somehow he still manages to smile most of the time. Finally I took him back to the doctor yesterday and the doctor suspects he has walking pneumonia ( guess in his case it's really "almost-sitting-up" pneumonia). The other choice was asthma but not a strong genetic pull for that. He has to have the nebulizer three times a day but it's already helping. Last night he slept much better than the night before. I hate it when the kids are sick and can't say what's wrong. The moan is the worst.
