Transportation and Logistics

When I became a mom, I expected to have more jobs--it's only rational. What I didn't expect was that I would take on a career in transportation and logistics. I feel like all I do is transport things (toys, books, socks, shoes, paper clips, flashlights, bills, DVDs, drill bits, you name it--I've moved it) from one area of the house to another. I used to try to immediately remove the offensive item and return it to its proper resting spot but realized I don't have the resources to operate in such a manner. Now I try to make piles of things headed to various locations and deliver them on my next trip. Perhaps I should get shopping carts labeled "bathroom" "bedroom" "office" "garage" etc. kind of like they have in the return department at Target.

Logistics really go hand-in-hand with transportation because you have to logistically determine what it is you need to transport be it a return or pick up. For example, we keep a full stock of baby supplies (extra change of clothes, diaper, wipes, burp clothes and the like) in a cabinet in the family room. It's a full time job keeping that puppy stocked. I try to bring a load of diapers down from upstairs while I'm up there transporting misplaced items to their homes. It really requires constant mental alertness, which I struggle to maintain, to juggle what needs to go where . Perhaps I need to just relax and stop worrying about trying to be organized. Maybe life would be easier if I could train myself to live in chaos. Maybe I'll try it out for a week.

A Season of Thanksgiving

I have always enjoyed Thanksgiving. In fact, I wish it had more of it's own time. We had a fun day at my parents with Corbin's parents and sister. I love the left over stuffing and gravy. This year I have seemed to dwell even more on the idea of giving thanks. On Thanksgiving morning I asked Matthew to try to include some things he was thankful for in his breakfast prayer. He was very sincere and thanked Heavenly Father for his Cars (Disney cars), binkies, glasses, milk, and cereal. I have been given so much compared to most people in the world. Thanksgiving is a great holiday to launch us into the Christmas season and give thanks for our Savior. My goal is to have some Christ centered activity in our home despite the holiday hoopla.

Despite the secular hoopla, we are very much looking forward to the holidays with Matthew to once again see the magic and wonder of the season. It seemed as I grew out of childhood that Christmas did lose some of it's magic--but we've found it once again with our kids. Matthew loves reading The Polar Express and every time we read it I love the last page about those who truly believe can still hear the reindeer bells ring. There are still many wonderful causes in life to believe in. We'll try to concentrate on finding some.

P.S. I still believe that Matthew will eventually get potty trained. We've been more intent this week and he's been doing very well. He earned a Lightning McQueen car by going 10 times. Spencer on the other hand, hates dirty diapers so hopefully he's a quick train when it's his time.

A New Cyber Adventure

Some of my friends have created blogs and I've been considering whether I should start one--mostly because I am such a terrible journal writer. I think I may be more inclined to blog than to pull out a piece of paper--although paper certainly has it's merits--like the whole world isn't reading it. I want to try to record events that happen in our lives--particularly the little ones that I want to cherish for years to come. I know if I don't write down the events of our lives that through time even the bright memories begin to fade and details get hazy. Matthew is at such a cute age now and I want to record things that he does and says.

So, with that being said . . .we'll see how it goes! Here goes our new blog page. I guess this will force me to become more computer savvy.
